I thought I told you not to leave your shoe on the road.

Lately I've been wondering about road shoes. What is their story? Why is there only ever just one? If your shoe fell on the road wouldn't you try to go back for it? I mean, losing one really ruins the whole pair. Maybe the owner didn't notice until it was too late.

But really - how can so many people not notice that one of their shoes is suddenly off their foot, out the window and on the expressway?

Anyone else ever wonder about these? I wonder if any of my shoes are sitting out on a road somewhere, alone and dusty.

I am morbid.

So,
For some reason, I got it in my head that those shoes belong to all the people that were in car accidents, and lost their shoes in the impact.

They always made me a little sad.
I wonder, what happened to the feet that went into those shoes?

I should consider the possibility that the shoes belong to dog owners who like to chase cars with shoes in their mouth, or something....

Wow, that really makes those shoes into tragic, lonely figures.

I'm angsty, how could I not turn lone shoes into tragic lonely figures?

My theory is that it's teenagers screwing around. Like, one of them grabs another one's shoe and throws it out, and the driver won't go back for it.

Your shoes are not lost on the road. One time you left your shoes on the roof of the car and drove away. You drove 20 minutes down the road, remembered your shoes, and turned back for them. When you found them they were sticky from the Mt. Dew you spilled (the reason you stopped and put them on top of the car in the first place) and covered with earwigs. And still you retrieved them and probably still have them buried in your closet somewhere. I trust that a similar story is the reason shoes are abandoned on the side of the road... just not yours.

The previous comment is what happens when your sister finds your blog and remembers your own road shoe stories.
